Amazon.in expands its delivery network in Maharashtra ahead of the festive season
• Company has driven 2X growth in the delivery station network across the State in the last year
• Expansion enables Amazon customers from the region to receive faster delivery of their orders
Nagpur, October 8, 2018: Amazon.in announced the expansion of its own delivery network in Maharashtra including cities like Nagpur, Pune, Aurangabad, Amravati and Nashik, to name a few. With this expansion, Amazon.in now has over 120 delivery stations and Service Partner nodes, and has partnered with more than 4200 retail outlets as part of its ‘I Have Space’ program in the State. The 2X growth of the delivery network enables Amazon to penetrate further into small towns and locations across the state to serve customers with its own delivery services, resulting in faster delivery of orders.
Commenting on the expansion of its delivery network, Mr. Awanish Singh, Director, Last Mile Operations, Amazon India said, “We believe that customers, no matter where they reside or are located, value fast and reliable delivery. In line with our vision of making ecommerce a part of everyday life, we have expanded our delivery network in Maharashtra. This will enable us to better serve our customers and also support our Prime customers with free and fast delivery, especially for the upcoming festive season.”
Mr. Singh added, “This growth in our delivery network will also create numerous opportunities for local entrepreneurs to scale their business to greater heights under Amazon’s Service Partner and ‘I Have Space Program’. We are happy to announce that we now have over 120 delivery stations managed by us and our Service Partners and more than 4200 ‘I Have Space’ partner stores, strengthening our last mile delivery capability and enabling us to deliver to remote areas like Talegaon, Sindhudurg, Chiplun and Buldhana in the region.”
The Service Partner program is one of the last mile models by Amazon Logistics wherein entrepreneurs act as Amazon.in’s local distribution network providers and create the last mile delivery footprint. The company now has over 700 Service Partner nodes in 500 cities across the country including regions such as Jorhat, Agartala, Zunhebotto, Tirap, Saiha, Ukhrul and Tamenglong to name a few. This is a 2X growth since 2017.
Under the ‘I Have Space’ program (IHS), Amazon India partners with local store owners across different cities to deliver products to customers within a 2 – 4 kilometre radius of their store. These local entrepreneurs understand their area well and have immense goodwill in their neighbourhood to efficiently deliver and receive products. Amazon.in has successfully unlocked the potential of such storeowners, allowing them to supplement their regular income by earning a fee per delivery. Amazon India now has close to 20,000 stores under this flagship program in over 350 cities.
